the label

Greyfade is a music label and publisher that takes as its basic premise the idea of a music release as a complete conceptual universe, integrating sound, compositional architecture, visual design, and the release medium itself into a single object worthy of sustained engagement.

founded in 2019 by musician, producer, and designer Joseph Branciforte, Greyfade has played a key role in connecting the worlds of experimental electronic music, modern composition, and minimalism. Its roster includes an international network of artists exploring procedural composition, alternative tuning systems, and custom technological frameworks for composition and performance, including Taylor Deupree, Catherine Lamb, JACK Quartet, Theo Bleckmann, and Branciforte himself.

the label has also been a catalyst for rethinking the way music is released in both physical and digital forms. In 2024 it introduced the FOLIO format, an album-as-hardcover-book that is equal parts music release, critical and creative text, study score, and collectible art object. In August 2026 Greyfade announced a new digital listening platform designed to present the catalog on its own terms — uncompressed, gapless playback with no ads, recommendations, play counts, or feeds. It is now in beta at greyfade.com/app.

“Greyfade invites deep and sustained attention to the intersection of procedural composition, minimalism, and improvisation—with meticulous design and production standards that match the quality, originality and restraint of the music.”The Wire
